The Department of Quantity Surveying is mounted under the Faculty of Earth& Environmental Sciences and was established in 2014 by the University senate under the leadership of Professor Abubakar Rasheed. The University established the Department with aim to develop students and staff that are entrepreneurial, eminently employable and well-connected within a research and professionally informed environment.
On the 16th and 17th September, 2014 the Senate gave the Department of Geography the mandate to discuss and put forth the new Faculty of Earth& Environmental sciences structure. The outcome of the meeting paved way for the following seven departments: Department of Geography; Department of Environmental Management, Department of Architecture; Department of Geology; Department of Estate Management &Valuation; Department of Quantity Surveying; and Department of Urban and Regional Planning. The results were championed by Prof. Emeritus A. E. Olofin, and Prof. A. I. Tanko respectively. In March, 2015, the faculty held its first board meeting where Prof. A.I. Tanko was appointed as the pioneer Dean of the faculty and Dr. Alhassan Dahiru was appointed as the pioneer Head of the Department of Quantity Surveying. The Department has started with level 100 of 35 students. Today, the department has level 100, 200, and 300 respectively and the number of students has risen appreciably from 35 to 115. Presently, the department of Quantity Surveying is blessed with highly professional lecturers and registered Quantity Surveyors.
